Erected in the late 19th century, Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani revived and renovated Barzan Towers at the dawn of the 20th century. Despite his father's victory against Ottoman soldiers in the Battle of Al Wajbah years prior, this ingenious leader still felt threatened by potential tensions that could arise again.
Additionally, these two majestic towers were also used to monitor changes in moon phases during Ramadan - a religious requirement for Qataris living then as it is now today. After many decades standing tall through storms and sandstorms alike, Qatari authorities restored them once more back to their former glory in 2003.
